January
At first glance, the Gardens are quite asleep, with only the structure of the clipped formal yew, hornbeam and box hedges to give definition. Look a little closer and see the snowdrops in massive drifts, poking their shoots and then white, honey-scented flowers up through fallen leaves. The bright yellow of the winter aconites accompanies them on the woodland floor, as the strange and scented flowers of the witch hazels unfurl. |
